Yep talked to a major dealer last week 2017 is it for the V-Rod family he was not happy he own's a V-Rod himself, he was telling me that the V-Rod's are not a big seller in the State's and Harley follow's the market on bike sale's in it's home Country...

Was told by a dealer in Qld that the production of Vrods has now officially stopped, end of an era.

So I guess the old VRSCDX will become a collectors item in many years haha but also will be harder to get hold of parts....

Doesn't surprise me, they are very popular in Europe, they'll just lose more customers.

Even Royal Enfield is out selling Harley Davidson.....

YUP.... was told at a 2017 launch last week that the last V-Rod came off the production line a couple of weeks back. From what I hear the line was wound up because of EPA requirements...

V Rod parts are hard to get now. Ever tried ordering a main bearing?? Or a set of rings FFS. They are a good strong engine, respond well to work, bike needs an upgrade, it is still the same basic bike as 2002, new forks a few years back and thats it.

The water cooled Revolution engine is cleaner, greener and much more emission compliant than the air cooled. Sales outside of the US are extremely strong, and the dealers l have spoken to have indicated the disappointment in not  having a transitional bike for those stepping off high powered Jap bikes into cruisers. Without it, the current 2017 range looks quite average and not that exciting. Loss of the NRS and Muscle for those wanting something  with a bit of grunt will only hurt the single brand dealers.

Yes even more so. I'm not likely to use a big 40k tourer as a street bike that can't punt around corners. The actual bikes on the floor that are the  every weekend ride line up is looking average. There is  not a single  feature on the M8 engine that has not been around nice the dawn of time with other manufacturers, and Harley are charging a premium price for it.

The only positive is the lack of available stock has driven the price up on s/hand Vrods in the last two months. People are getting ridiculous prices for them. Guys at Halrley Heaven said a similar thing will happen to  the rods that occurred with the Softail Customs when they stopped production. Sky high prices for unmolested standard units.

My comments were to paulybronco's response in regards to HD's 2017 street bike line up. Not to the Vrod. But yes it is now dated, but while you are asking, on a powercruiser it set a bench mark -
    125hp
    Slipper clutch
    Braided break lines
    Brembo brakes
    Low slung fuel carrier
    Inverted forks
    Etc etc

Package ths engine with a big bore capacity ( say 1440cc ) into a lighter weight chasis, put in a sixth gear and drop 40kg's of weight and this would be a sensational Power Cruiser by today's standards.

32 years ago, that's right in 1985, Yamaha made a cruiser with 145hp. It had the fuel tank under the seat and where you expect there to be a fuel tank was where the air cleaner was located.

Hence my point it is now outdated against the current crop of powercruisers and at te price HD Australia are commanding. But all NRS stock is old so there obviously is/was a market for this model.

It will be interesting what Harley do with the void left by the vrod. With no beull or xr bikes, that engine would go alright in a bike that's a bit sporty. They must have something in mind for that engine surely. It would be a waste otherwise. And as others have said the vrod was the choice for a lot of blokes coming off jap sports bikes. Maybe there is nothing else in store.
